A Public Workshop For People Who Want Or Need To Lose Weight

Including Therapists, Counsellors and Hypnotherapists

January 30-31 £95

Are you fat or overweight? Have you tried all the diets, books, tablets and self help you can get?

Are you still fat and hating it? Or even worse hating yourself?

This is a practical and hands on workshop where you will discover yourself how to change your attitude towards food, especially emotional eating as well as how to build the real and honest motivation that will help you stop Yo Yo dieting and emotional eating and keep you on course for the much better life experience you know you really do want.

This workshop is NOT about diets, nutrition, books or exercise.

This workshop is specifically about the mental and physiological attitude that makes the difference.

Attendees probably will not lose any significant amount of weight during the workshop. Attendees will leave with significantly increased probability of weight loss and keeping it off.

This workshop is also designed for FAT AND OVERWEIGHT PEOPLE, Counsellors, Therapists, Hypnotherapists and People Helpers who are in the business of helping people with weight issues. Workshop is held at Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne and will qualify for CPD. Both remedial and generative change aspects of therapeutic intervention for weight loss will be addressed in this fully participatory workshop.

This very practical, hands on workshop will teach you the three most important Attitudes you absolutely must foster in order to Lose Weight … Especially if you really want it to happen for yourself or for your clients.

Attitude One to understand that Weight Loss is not about Weight Loss. Every one of the clients I see in private practice for Weight Loss … ultimately wants way much more than just to lose some weight. Weight Loss is most definitely NOT the end result!

Attitude Two to accurately know what it will mean when you have what you want and how your life will change as a result. When you are happier in and of yourself and you have lost weight, what does this get you? Successful weight loss involves looking and seeing beyond the weight problem and having a clear vision of how your life will be different.

Attitude Three Specifically, how you can, in an ecologically sound way, radically change your attitude and feelings about food. To understand and deal with emotional eating so as to keep the weight off and build and maintain the required motivation to see it through. This workshop includes therapeutic processes for remedial and generative change in the treatment of problem weight issues.

Using the NLP Meta Model For Business – Part One

Blue Ocean StrategyImage by PrASanGaM via Flickr

During my first NLP Trainer Trainer,  John Grinder presented a cut down version of the Meta-Model specifically for Business Applications. He Called it the Verbal Package. The updated model Directioning and Intelligent Questioning is presented on my six month Newcastle upon Tyne NLP Master Practitioner training courses.

This is a cut down version ( keeping it simple ) of the model presented in Grinders book, Precision.

It goes like this.

  1. Establish Rapport.
  2. Present the Relevancy Challenge.
  3. Challenge the Nouns.
  4. Challenge the Verbs.
  5. BackTrack.

Now I want to add an additional yet extremely important missing piece. Notice the absolutely essential new first step.
The model now becomes what I call the D.I.Q model (Directioning and Intelligent Questioning )

  1. Set your Outcome for this meeting / interaction and align with your Purpose.
  2. Establish Rapport.
  3. Introduce the Relevancy Challenge.
  4. Explore the unspecified Nouns.
  5. Explore the unspecified the Verbs.
  6. BackTrack what has been communicated and what has been understood.

The next instalment of DIQ will unpack the elements of this model.

Practice Review Record
The Good Feeling of Practice Well Done

There’s an old joke.

A man in Time Square in New York wants to get to the concert and sees a man carrying a violin case.

He asks: “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?”.

“Practice, practice, practice” is the reply.

Like many good jokes it makes a serious point. Some skills need practice. One form of practice is mental rehearsal, which has been used by sports people in particular to improve their performance by playing out a game or a race in advance to prepare themselves for event when it actually happens.

NLP has an optimised strategy for mental rehearsal for developing and practising new skills; called ‘The New Behaviour Generator’.

In it’s original form it can be a little dry and mechanistic. What if we could juice it up with some of the feelings that would make it more likely that we would get the result we want with style and resourcefulness?

The Good Feeling of Practice Well Done is a process developed by Andy Hunt based on the New Behaviour Generator and incorporating states and values into the process to give it that extra juice.

EFT and Me

Emotional Freedom TechniqueImage via Wikipedia

I really like EFT. When it is done well it can have a massive affect in dissipating negative emotional states and equally it can be used to create positive emotional states.

EFT is easy to use and it is easy to use on yourself, it is even easy to use on me, but is it so easy to use on I?

What? Easy to use on I?

Let me explain.

I have recently attended a training with Andrew T. Austin and part of the exploration was the semantic / physiological Me, Self, I and You. If you have done any NLP Training you are probably familiar with the concept of I, Me, Self, You, Other etc…

Now here is an idea, that I have tried on my’self’ and ‘me’ and invite you to explore some of the same.

1. Discover where the ‘I’, ‘me’ and ‘self’ are located in and around you. Find the physical place and volume occupied. Get a sense of the shapes involved.

2. Next time you have a negative emotional feeling. Notice specifically where you feel this and check if it corresponds to the location for you of your ‘Me’, ‘Self’ or ‘I’.

For most people emotions are generally not felt in  and around the head. The ‘I’ is very typically experienced around and in the head for many people.

Now the standard EFT chant is …

“even though ‘I’ feel ( insert negative emotion name here ) I am all right I am OK”

Now, explore this. Swap the standard ‘I’ for ‘Me’ or ‘I’ for ‘Self’ or ‘Myself’. This will most likely sound weird, unless you are a very young child.

“even though ‘me’ feel ( insert negative emotion name here ) me is/am all right me is/am OK”

Try this out and notice how swapping the ‘I’ for the ‘Me’ changes the experience of using EFT.

Happy tapping!

"an "accredited" hypnotherapist with absolutely no qualifications"

This is an extract from an article on the BBC’s Inside Out blog : An interesting article

Next week’s new BBC series of Inside Out lifts the lid on the world of hypnotherapy in the North East of England and shows how easy it is to set yourself up as an “accredited” hypnotherapist with absolutely no qualifications.

In fact, it’s so easy that presenter Chris Jackson is able to register his cat George with several seemingly professional industry organisations. All his cat needed was a fake diploma and the ability to stump up the registration fee.

Inside Out then meets a hypnotist who claims to be able to help people stop smoking.

George McNaney from East Rainton, near Sunderland, is a self-proclaimed “hypnotist to the stars”. George claims an “up to 90 per cent” success rate for treating smokers using hypnotherapy techniques for a one-off payment of £129 – though the most detailed clinical studies report that hypnosis can help only around 20-35 per cent of smokers.

Mr McNaney responds by saying that he’s less interested in clinical tests than what works for his clients.

After a bit more digging, Inside Out finds that although Mr McNaney has a website offering hypnotherapy services, he isn’t the director of any registered hypnotherapy company.

He is, however, the director of an outfit that predicts who’s going to win at the horse racing. All you had to do was send nearly £5,300 to a South Shields PO Box for the privilege of finding out.

He says that this scheme is no longer in operation and was stopped before he became a hypnotherapist.

— clipped —
The show’s investigation shows that while there are several hypnotherapy organisations none of them is regulated by law and there are no standard qualifications.

This worries hypnotherapist Andy Austin who blows the whistle on his own industry.

That's Right – Hypnosis Trance Induction

There are many unconscious body signals that are know to be indications of trance; That are know to be indicative of honest unconscious processes.

When any person displays these signs, these unconscious behaviours are verified, accepted and welcomed when the hypnotherapist detects and then comments on them by saying “Thats Right” or “Very Good” or words to this effect. This is a conscious confirmation or a ‘stroke’ to your clients conscious and unconscious mind.

It is possible to develop a very deep level of trance using only these words. This is equivalent to saying ‘what you are doing is perfect, well done!’ and the behaviour, in this case the development of trance is amplified and encouraged.

Recorded during the Communicating Excellence Clinical Hypnotherapy Diploma in Newcastle upon Tyne.
