April Newcastle Hypnotherapy and NLP Practice Day : Sunday 14th

This April the Newcastle NLP and Hypnotherapy Practice Sunday is going to be exploring and utilsing deeper aspects of linguistic patters in hypnosis, aspects of self care, proactive and reactive for health and healing and including NLP Meta Programs for shifting old ways of thinking and behaving that no longer are good for you.

NLP Practitioner Training Newcastle

Some from Erickson’s Ideo-X methods of conversationally eliciting beneficial experience along side with what I have called Prousting, which is using relative clause and time to assist those who want to lay down the structures for accessing new potentials in behaviours.

One very important factor in staying well in health and mind is knowing when problem symptomology occurs in your body it may be a clue you are either doing too much or not actually engaging in ‘the power of negative thinking’. This is exploring some ideas from the excellent ‘When the Body says No’ by Gabor Mate. In essence, learning to say no to others requests or the feeling you have to do something for others in order to feel better.

The third exploration is NLP Meta Programs. Those fictional categories of non-conscious behavioural and motivational predictors that can be extremely useful to detect in yourself and in others to potentially communicate at deeper levels for positive evolution. It’s also useful to be able to recognise when such ‘characteristics of communication’ are being used to influence you!

Additional topics for exploration can be decided on the day. Looking forward to seeing you there.

NLP and Hypnotherapy Practice Day : Newcastle : April 14th

A wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow explorers one Saturday each month to practice NLP, Hypnotherapy and a whole host of behavioural and psychological mischief in a loosely structured, supportive and fun way.

NLP and Hypnotherapy Practice Day April 2018

The rhizome or roots of a plant are the life source that again and again provides the nucleus of the flower, the deep structure that provides a blue print for life. Coming to a NLP and Hypnotherapy Practice Day is like nurturing your NLP and Hypnotherapy rhizome because we all know practice leads to less error!

This NLP and Hypnotherapy Practice day will be organised around practising key NLP structures like Rapport, Calibration and Flexibility with some prearranged topics as well as you deciding what you would like to practice on the day. Fast Phobia Cure, Submodalities or Meta Model – you choose!

NLP and Hypnotherapy Practice Day Topics

Three predefined topics for this NLP and Hypnotherapy Practice day are: One questioning our beliefs as maps of the world to open new possibilities. Two being present without internal chatter to actually learn something and Three some Provocative Humour Worx patterns.

One : In relation to deep roots or the nurturant rhizome, something I find useful for myself and for clients is questioning beliefs and reasons. A delightful, fun and curious way to do this is with ‘The Why?’ exercise. This is something recently developed with my friend Ruth Olayinka for an improvisation course we are planning.

In deeply questioning our words ( as maps of our beliefs ), essentially challenging our justifications and rationales, our reasoning and logic, we can metaphorically return to our deep roots to temp a new flower of being into existence. And note worthy is ‘Why’ can act as either cause or effect, back or forward in time.

Two : I find it very useful when talking with other people to be fully present. This for me has a key ingredient which is having no internal chatter. Usually with no agenda other than to serve. Serving can include but is not limited to listening, reflecting and questioning.

You could call this an NLP model of behavior in time in four quadrants. Attending to your attention as in mindfulness comes close to this idea and there is much more and much less so less is more!

Three : We will be utilising some of Phil Jeremiah’s Humour Worx Provocative patterns to explore problems, stuck states and just for fun in learning.

Most professional societies require that regular practice, training and support form part of the CPD you choose to do. These practice days can make up part of your CPD.

NLP Hypnotherapy Practice Newcastle : March 31 April 1

Ostara or Easter is a traditional Pagan and Christian festival celebrating renewing as in Spring and resurrection metaphorically and for some quite literally. Meaning and Beliefs are a huge part of the maps we use to navigate life. NLP Hypnotherapy Practice weekend this Easter will explore what can happen when meanings and beliefs change.

NLP Hypnotherapy Practice Newcastle

It is common practice in change work to explore meanings as a way to improve and change a situation, perception or event. Humans are meaning making organisms and sometimes the meanings we make can be debilitating or can be empowering and freeing.

Equally we all have or apply beliefs to many aspects of life. These can be scientific beliefs that we use when boiling a kettle or the more common general associations we have learned which seem to accurately predict the future.

Like Easter and its cultural significance one persons ‘belief’ may be another persons mythology. The comparative mythologist Joseph Campbell defined 4 functions of a successful and living mythology. We can extend these to our individual beliefs and their associated meanings.

4 Functions of Myth – Joseph Campbell

Pedagogical Function. The application of beliefs ( Myth ) that will assist the believer with and through the various problem stages of life.

Cosmological Function. The beliefs that put the believer in accord with the science of the day.

Sociological Function. How the belief works well to maintain and support the society and culture we live with.

Mystical Function. The aspects of belief that put the practitioner in touch with the divine source of all creation.

Exploring our own enabling and empowering beliefs and their opposites with their associated meanings can help us in recognizing our habits and how to change and improve them.

The weekend will also include practicing core ‘beliefs’ or ‘act as if’ ideas that tend to make NLP & Hypnotherapy work even better. Lots of practice, lots of fun in learning and developing.

This is excellent value at Only £30 for a full weekends CPD, Practice and Development in NLP and Hypnotherapy.

Conversational Postulate in Hypnosis

At this months NLP & Hypnosis Practice Group, The Trance Cafe the topic of exploration was the Milton Model. Specifically the use and understanding of the Conversational Postulate.

First we inquired into the meanings of the terms. Postulate means a assumption of some reality. But a Conversational Postulate is basically a question form where irrespective of the verbal answer will tend to invoke some kind of action in reality; be this a physical one and/or operating withing cognitive capacity.

Conversational Postulate Hypnosis Newcastle

The verbal answer is most commonly a YES/NO or less commonly I DON’T KNOW or MAYBE. The importance is what happens in actuality, an action or thought that is the subtle or indirect response that is usually inferred by the recipient of the Conversational Postulate question.

For instance:

  • Could you tell me the way to the station?
  • Won’t you sit down?
  • Might it be a good idea to talk about it?
  • Can I ask you to stand up please?
  • Will you show me that again?
  • Is there any more toilet paper?
  • Should you wait before ordering that book?

The basic form will take a MODAL OPERATOR such as Could, Can, Will, Might followed by a personal or group referential index such as YOU or YOUSE’ALL and then a request ( question ) which can be acted upon either physically or psychologically.

So a basic set up for an induction into trance could be:

Could you sit down please? … And can you take two or three deep breaths? … And might you relax your shoulders a little more? … And will you close your eyes momentarily or in just a little while?

So we now have the structure of :

[ C.P. ] [ Suggestion ]

eg [ Could you ] [ Sit Down ]

Following on from this we can use what I call a Conversational Softener or just a Softener that is spoken before the Conversation Postulate [ C.P. ]. For instance:

I wonder … Could you Sit Down? or OK Robert, Could you Sit Down?

Where a Softener is of the form : I wonder, OK Robert,  I’m wondering, Now etc.

If you are ready … Could you sit down please? … And Robert … can you take two or three deep breaths? … And now … might you relax your shoulders a little more? … And I’m wondering will you close your eyes momentarily or in just a little while?

[ Softener ] [ C.P. ] [ Suggestion ]

One of the most useful ( and indeed a social nicety ) words is please. There is one video I saw online of Erickson working with a client who would not at first close their eyes. Erickson used the work ‘please’ several times to affect this. Usually clients are not resistful or not wanting to co-operate so the use of ‘please’ has several uses.

The word ‘please’ in this developing structure can be used in a variety of places. It was found during the practice group that excessive use of ‘please’ felt somewhat unnatural. I leave you to explore this in your own ways. ‘Please’ will fit in any one ( or more ) of the structure sequence marker shown after the ‘Please’ modified ‘induction’ below.

If you are ready … Please could you sit down ? … And Robert … can you Please take two or three deep breaths? … And now … might you relax your shoulders a little more Please? … And I’m wondering will you Please close your eyes momentarily or in just a little while?

[ Softener ] [ -Please- ] [ C.P. ] [ -Please- ] [ Suggestion ] [ -Please- ]

You may have noticed that the last structure phrase in this basic induction is a double bind. The Conversation Postulate may be actualised immediately, or momentarily or in a little while as per the verbal question. So extending the ‘Suggestion’ part of the mini-structure, yes that can be a double ( or single bind ) bind.

[ Softener ] [ C.P. ] [ Please ] [ Suggestion ( Bind Form) ]

Now, as with all structures ( or process ) I wonder, can you thoroughly learn this with plenty of effortful practice or enhanced repetition and then please consciously forget them?

Negation and Negative Effect Postulates

I will leave this post with a little taster of what followed on from this exploration at the practice group; as in putting into a alternative mode of practice within the presented structure.

Assuming your practice partner is sitting down and their name is Mary.

Ok Mary … I see that you are not standing up … Please … I don’t know … can’t you stand up? … and go deeper into trance?

Or assuming Mary has her eyes open.

Mary … I notice your eyes are open … I don’t know … can you not close your eyes? … while you develop more of an altered state?

This month’s offering at the Newcastle & North East NLP & Hypnotherapy Practice Group is Improvisation Skills in Therapy & Coaching … It’s for those of us who will go the extra extra mile to engender generative change.

20th April : Powerful and Exceptionally Meaningful Therapist Skills … Come … Here … And Co-Create …

When we are working in the role of a change consultant, therapist, facilitator or coach we do have an outcome in mind that is to facilitate a real, honest and empowering environment of exploration for our clients. How can we tune into being this creative?

Way too many change consultants can’t get out of their own way, in terms of making a real step or going out of their own comfort zone to enable their clients to do the same. What can we do to get to grips with getting out of our own way and facilitate real change experience?

There is a real need and requirement to be able to create a context for generative change which is enabling and at the same time, truly an honest and very creative place. When we hold a perspective of being seriously creative, we can see a clear path to genuinely enabling changes …

Performing arts and drama facilitation expert, Ruth Hindmarsh will facilitate a fun and safe space to really be the change consultant you know are, with fun and real purpose.

Within a sequence of exercises, Ruth and myself will integrate play, fun and creativity into tools and process’s you can easily merge into your professional practice and your life to make your sessions and interactions much more creative as well as bringing a smile and sense of something more deeply connecting into our work, play time and life as a whole.

Very much for those of us who are serious about change …

Spirituality in Coaching & Therapy : Session 2 : March 23rd : 7-9

“When your sense of self is no longer tied to thought, is no longer conceptual, there is a depth of feeling, of sensing, of compassion, of loving, that was not there when you were trapped in mental concepts. You are that depth.” ~ Eckhart Tolle

When we come direct from heart space we create an energetic connection that surpasses the concept of empathy or our multi-sensory capacity. In doing so we create the neutral vacuum that two souls can share to explore, discover, test, challenge and shift. For us, this is our recipe for lasting and generative change.

Paula and Nigel ran a café in February with thirty change workers from our region. Within minutes a space or vacuum had been created and a sense of calm descended. A place of peace and an open invitation to a gate for learning was present. Trust was not in consciousness as exploration overwhelmed any sense of anything else egoful.

In this place the concepts of reflection and projection were explored, safely and deeply. In the co-created space, the learnings shared, revealed reflections to be obviously seen, felt and heard. Projections as a consequence were so apparent and evidenced by the triads within which each individual worked. In one group three women who did not know one another before and without consciousness had sat next to one another apparently ‘just because’ shared the same shoes and suit, all shared the same organisation in terms of one had been employed by it, another currently employed by it and the third attending an interview the following day for it. Further they all shared the same fears and depth within those fears, they all shared a desire to learn NLP and two learned that a couple of weeks later they would share the same learning space on a course they had both booked completely independently.

Feedback came pouring in over-night from co-creators who in sharing the same continued to process for enlightenment. Emails have poured in subsequently and we could share many quotes with you but perhaps this one sums it up:

“For me, it’s all about leaving rational thought processes behind & allowing myself to connect fully to my inner self & to simply experience what is happening as it happens without thought or judgement.”

In our continuing journey into the theme of creating heart space whenever or wherever we go, the passage of time and process of reflection by you and us, has now revealed the next steps to be taken.

And boy has it revealed such phenomenal learnings have come to us to share with you in a way that cannot not open you to the greater source that exists within. And when in touch and aligned with your greater source, heart-space emanates in ways that the conscious could not conjure or create by itself. In turn this provides the neutral vacuum that two souls (or more as we’ve experienced) can share to explore, discover, test, challenge and shift. Again in continuous discovery, this is still our recipe for lasting and generative change.

So in this second café Paula and Nigel will facilitate your exploration of the deeper sense of self in a very different and dynamic way to anything that you may have experienced before. If there is language to explain what will happen we would say this experience will take you beyond the idea of ‘personal development’ and into the realms of ‘self awakening’.

You will have the opportunity to co-create between us a space where learning is shared and multiplied by just the essence of your being.

So please come join us for the journey of a lifetime knowing that once entered life will never be the same again.

When we come direct from heart space we create an energetic connection that surpasses the concept of empathy or our multi-sensory capacity. In doing so we create the neutral void that two souls can share to explore, discover, test, challenge and shift. For us, this is our recipe for lasting and generative change.

So in this café Paula and Nigel will facilitate your unpacking of the deeper and more connecting ways in which yours and our therapeutic alliances work. How they are formed, how they grow and the effect and impact they have on our and the world.

We will open and share our thoughts and processes of how to develop co-created alliances by exploring the concepts of projections and reflections prior to, during and after a dynamic interaction. We will also consider projection and reflection in terms of attracting clients into your life for mutual healing and purposeful learnings.

Every person we meet has something to teach us, and every person has something to say that only they can say. We both believe we attract the clients that will help and be beneficial to our ongoing development. This may also include ‘healing’ your past. viz a vie we meet together to co-create something that is more than mutually beneficial …

From this place we’ll look at working from heart space that dynamically co-creates a change process as being fundamental in effective change and evolution work. We will show you how this offers a place that goes way beyond our understanding of rapport. Indeed it transcends the thoughts that if we shared some common value, belief, outcomes, goals and even purpose we can go anywhere in the relationship.

NLP Collapsing Anchors Physically Newcastle NLP Practitioner and Clinical Hypnotherapy Training

One of the methodologies in NLP is moving from problem states or feelings into ones of freedom and ease.

Some people will regard this process as chaining anchors others may regard this as collapsing anchors. It can be regarded as both. More importantly it is really all about shunting anchors or states. That is to go from one state to another. This is accomplished by shifting physiology and some Thought Provoking Dialogue.

This is one way to make yourself feel better and let go of the past … while preserving as much as possible of the learnings … so you ideally don’t get into the same kind of mire again. It is also a way through repetition to train your body to shift at the first signs ( often unconscious ) of the problem state to a resource state.
