Weight Loss & Pain Management Workshop

OK so you or your clients want to lose weight it’s that simple. So from the outset, it’s all the about the past – a past that has been stopping, restraining or imprisoning you. A bold statement, perhaps, so let’s explain.

When the past is mentioned its like everything you know was learned at some point and for most people, habits or expectation about the future are predictions made from past experience.

With weight loss, these are the disabling beliefs that circle around diets and miracle cures like vultures, ever ready for the next celebrity endorsed meal. What needs to change, must change for something long lasting is the entire foundation that is the emotional baggage and past we have all carried.

NLP Hypnotherapy Newcastle

There is a gateway to the imagination you must enter before you are conscious and the keys to the gate are symbols. You can carry ideas through the gate … but you must carry the ideas as symbols” – Frank Herbert

These very predictions of behaviour, thought and emotion are to avoid pain be it emotional, psychological or physical. And are the foundation of how and what we are today in behaviours, thoughts and emotions.

Digging up, basically removing the old foundations to create a very new basis means coming to terms, letting go and being reborn, like a Phoenix, could clear the way, open fresh possibilities, new possibilities to spectacular new ways of being – this means letting go of the fear-avoidant way we move through life is incredibly liberating.

Even being open to new possibilities creates change, the ground for liberation.

liberate means to be free. To stop coping with life the way you have. To open to the possibility of new and effortfully-joyful ways relating to yourself, food and … a lush way of living in a much more connective way.

This workshop will explore how pain ( physical and emotional ) can be liberated in means by a way of newly freshly taken in information and the resultant integration giving-creating genuine choice and purpose in losing weight.

What Will I Be Learning?

Some time ago, I was texted by a prospective student for an NLP/Hypnotherapy ‘what will I be learning in actuality’ – well this is important in regards to both weight loss and pain release; For two reasons.

Knowing what is being learned kind of defeats the idea of learning anything new. Usually this at best maps something different with new to old learning ( what we are trying to avoid ) and secondly they were too lazy to look at my web site.

Committing to both learning and embedding new habits is crucial in making any long lasting change. This requires effort. But – effort in the right place which is primarily psychological as well as behavioural.

Releasing the emotional and physical pain of past experiences and learnings has the potential to immediately create new ways of being in the world. Such past shocks to the psyche are going to be liberated with a method based in aspects of The Tibetan Book of the Dead. Kind of like acknowledging and letting be the vulnerable child in parts work. Tears of release anticipated!

What is a critical part in any change work is belief that change is possible. This is not like the ‘i would like to believe’ as would be many a religions practitioner in word but a deep, honest and forward feeling belief. More than faith but with stories of possibility we are creating a fertile ground for change.

A belief like this ( if its not already there ) is about stories, be they religious, scientific or anywhere in-between. It’s also about opening to the possibilities of change at a deep and sustainable level.

Following on from these aspects, we are looking backwards from the future, remembering what happened to create, shake and move us in the correct directions … and to move ourselves. This is rooted in our own deep and very honest values. What I call Spiral Dynamic Informed Future Pacing.

So a quick round up of some of the ways and means of pain release and weight loss.

  • Commitment and correct effort to succeed
  • Tibetan liberation from the past
  • Pain release
  • Creating a self motivated and purposeful future
  • Follow up and post session on Zoom

This workshop is informed with works from many of the most inspirations and meaningful books I have read. This is ranging from neuroscience to spirituality which offer the stories and the structures that can support change.

Improvisation Workshop – October 2011 : Nigel Hetherington

Improvisation is an essential life skill.

We all live in a time, our time,  where the ability to rapidly adapt to circumstances and be our playful and congruent selves is not just a requirement but a necessity. At least it is if we want to live particularly meaningful lives. This is a suggestion, an invitation, to one way of being more comfortable with who we are, who be are becoming and how we really want to be in our world.

When our regular and time worn patterns no longer serve us as best as they could, and we recognise this and wish for new and different ways of being, here is one possible solution. It is also guaranteed to be a great deal of fun.

Improvisation and improvising can often lead us into new pastures. We can adopt a new or different persona that is enabling and freeing. New pastures may not always be what we expect yet at the same time it really is a move away from our old and staid patterns of behaviour. A positive move towards a more congruent and meaningful way of being. I think you know and I hope it is a deep knowing, that when the time is right for you to make a real shift. A step or two in the right direction to change something or awake something that we recognise has been snoozing all too long, too comfortably …

When you are looking to make a new move, get out of that old, limiting comfort zone and open up a little more to a real experience, wouldn’t you really want to make that move in a way that promotes and expresses a ‘you’ that opens your heart in both a playful and honest way?

If you are on board so far, then here is an invitation to come along and play … Play in a two day workshop that combines improvisation, coaching and personal growth. In a way that is generative for personal development and additionally for therapists, elements that will enhance your client work by out of the norm ways of directing change.

A safe, inclusive and co-supportive workshop where you are free to engage and build your confidence while you experience and develop some new and additional behaviours that get you out of those old comfort zones, and creates space with an accent on a shiny new you.

Facilitated by myself and Ruth Hindmarsh. Me and Ruth, described as a ‘force of nature’ ( this is accurate ) will facilitate a wholly transformative workshop experience, where participants can develop greatly increased playfulness and self confidence with a real and honest participation in self directed, meaningful personal evolution. And again, this is guaranteed to be fun!

Newcastle Hypnosis Practice Group | December 1st | Mastering Hypnotic Language

This month, Wednesday 1st December, The Trance Cafe in Newcastle upon Tyne is Mastering Hypnotic Language with Clinical Newcastle Hypnotherapist Nigel Hetherington.

The topic is the STRUCTURE of hypnotic or influential communications with our selves and others. This is an opportunity to expand and equally condense our skills in HOW to ethically motivate and actualise all people towards a more complete authenticity in their life, relationships and business.

Specifically we will be using language as a way to powerfully influence and direct us towards our goals and objectives in a person to person, person to culture and person to society way, specifically with the language we use.

The structure of hypnotic and influential communications basically has two parts. Firstly the integral intention that drives us and secondly in how we as members of our culture and society use our words and values to share and hopefully influence each and everyone we communicate with.

Elements of Generative Change

An exploration of the elements of assisting clients …

The process of generative change and opening possibilities to lead an even more meaningful and purposeful life is all about making connections between a goal or outcome and the inherent values, beliefs, purposes and motivations that are driving the outcome or goal.

By abstracting or generalising the driving forces or ‘what does this actually get you’ in terms of the goal you can assist your clients in experiencing the real purpose or meaning of their goal.

Essential Spirituality and NLP – Part Two

Fractal ArtImage via Wikipedia

The concept is to balance the internal and external worlds so that neither one dominates so in equal measures a person leads a harmonious and balanced life. Think about this as doing some thinking as well as taking some exercise. Pretty simple right!

It can be …

It is simple, this is Yoga! Yoga IS a spiritual practice. Meditations to exercise the Mind as well as Physical activities to exercise the body.

Remember one of the so called operational Presuppositions of NLP is ‘Mind and Body Are One System’.

The seeming majority of NLP trainings will tend Strongly to works with mental and cognitive Elements of change yet not pay enough attention Towards the physical development aspects of change.

Yet this still is only half the story. This is about much more than learning mental and physical controls and Disciplines. This is about what happens to a persons Psyche as a function of having the ability to run the Brain and Body in unaccustomed and new ways.

Practically all current NLP training tends not to acknowledge let alone develop any aspects of Practitioners honest spiritual exploration and growth.

Clearly this was not always the case. Both Bandler and Grinder were hugely influenced By the work of the Mystic Carlos Castaneda. They Did in my opinion attempt to integrate spiritual Disciplines and practice in the early NLP trainings. Looking at the co-creators now there is to me clearly a very strong bias on the internal worlds from Bandler and a very stron bias from Grinder on the external experiences.

Now like UK schools, many ‘spiritual’ concepts have Been forgotten, swept under the carpet or Let go in some attempt to gain credibility, get recognition appease governments, seduce would be practitioners, Create ‘professional’ bodies, tap into management Institutes or educational institutions.

The ongoing and current NLP Evolution, I believe Will see an emphasis on honest spiritual development For NLP Practitioners, and just as much a moving away From the ‘trendy’ tic box, academically accredited Nonsense for NLP Practitioner certification that surely Will do to to real NLP education what the GCSE system and bureaucratic government did to hopes of serious Creativity and independent thinking practice.

NLP, like spiritual practice is not for everyone Yet those who do choose to practice NLP in earnest Will surely benefit from additional spiritual practice Intended to balance the psyche as a result of having The ability to run the Brain and Body in new and unaccustomed ways. NLP Evolution … … …

Is Self Help For Self Esteem Bad For You? It Can Be!

lonely, unhappiness sp: tristeza, desânimo, de...Image via Wikipedia

In a recent BBC article, about Self Esteem and Self Help, BBC News reported “Self help makes you feel worse”.

Could this be true? You bet it can!

By way of an analogy, Let’s say you have children and continually give them unspecified praise like, “Oh you are very good”, “Oh you are so clever”, “You are such a little gem”.

After a while, pretty fast in fact, these praise statements lose their intended positivity and serve to build unhelpful aspects of identity. Why is this?

It is because these statements are not backed up with evidence or reasons which support the praise. If they are backed up they might look like this.

“Oh you are so clever because you have shown me how you did all your homework”.

“Oh you are a little gem because you have tidied up all your toys. Thank you!”

So you wont really be surprised that supporting evidence and reason actually build positive aspects of identity over time.

The BBC reports that the growing trend of using self-help mantras to boost your spirits may actually have a detrimental effect. The news comes from Canadian research, which found that people with low self-esteem felt worse after repeating positive statements about themselves.

This experimental research on university students has found that concentrating on positive thoughts and statements made people with high self-esteem feel even better, but those with low self-esteem to felt worse and had saw their self-esteem dip.

It is absolutely no surprise that if you have low self esteem and you simply tell yourself you have high positive self esteem you will most likely make yourself feel worse.

So Why is this?

Pretty simple really. It it because two things are happening.

1. You are lying to yourself and you know it! Never a good thing!

2. This method fails because self esteem is not created by talking to yourself. Simply telling yourself or repeating a mantra means there is no attention paid to how you structure your own self esteem in terms of your experiences, memories and neurological identity imprints.

So if you do have low self esteem and you want to increase it, how do you go about it safely?

A great place to start is to know what self esteem actually is!

You see, we have been using the term ‘self esteem’ and it may surprise you that not so many people using the term actually know what self esteem is.

If you want a easy to understand definition for self esteem, and you want some ideas of the structure of how to increase your self esteem then please look at this recent post.
