Playful Change – Humour In Therapy : Exceedingly Good Additions For Your Therapy Toolbox : November 2014

If you are an NLP Practitioner, Hypnotherapist, Solution Focused Therapist, counsellor or a change worker of any form you will deeply understand the value of having several approaches to complement your main profession.

Effective therapy often involves going beyond any one specific protocol or pattern because all of our clients are individuals and respond better to some forms of intervention that others. That’s why its invaluable to have a variety of tools that can help your clients out of seemingly intractable thinking patterns or behaviours.

Phil Jeremiah is coming to Newcastle ( for the third time in four years ) this November to share his latest additions in the world of Playful Change. That is the structured use of humour and playfulness within a safe therapeutic setting.

Now have you ever considered the structured and deliberate use of humour, irrelevance and playfulness as applied to therapy? Especially with the people you find the most challenging to work with.

Playful Change in Therapy

Completing this workshop you will have both the skills and competency to interject irrelevance, humour or positive shock which can be easily incorporated into your current work or you could just as well utilise a full 20 minute Playful Change session inside your therapy work too.

The workshop will include patterns, group work and the opportunity to work with Phil one to one in a full 20 minute Playful Change session.

So you are confident in your application of the skills there will be many drills and exercises where you practice the patterns continuing to build on what you are learning over the weekend.

The weekend is guaranteed to be fun, relevant and structured. You can anticipate having a real laugh while your learning in experience.

November 22-23 : Newcastle upon Tyne : £150

Before the booking information, Im going to share a little history about how I was introduced to Phil and why I am inviting him back to Newcastle.

I was introduced and recommended to Phil’s work in 2009 by one of my first excellent teachers of NLP. Such a recommendation was real interesting and couldn’t be refused so I acted immediately intending to bring Phil to Newcastle.

Following a couple of telephone conversations and emails, I realised Phil is very much a kindred spirit and soon we had arranged dates for a two day training in the North East.

In early 2010 Phil came to Newcastle to teach Humour Works to a group of Hypnotherapists,  NLP Practitioners and a smattering of Solution Focused therapists and counsellors. The weekend was a huge success and the feedback from participants was extremely positive.

Phil Jeremiah IV is a world class exponent of Provocative Change, Thought Provoking Dialogue and Playful Change. Phil was one of Frank Farrelly’s ( creator of provocative therapy ) early and close in students.

My opinion is Phil is the slickest and most natural exponent of any of the ‘provocative’ styles facilitators I have seen. Plus his being a superb and fun teacher makes this a training you really must attend. You will be learning much more that patterns, you will be learning application and style.

I thoroughly enjoyed Phil’s workshop. Apart from the actual content, which was fascinating, his slick delivery meant that the weekend flew by. He is a superb and extremely humorous presenter, who could give many comedians a run for their money! He brought the topic to life through a wide range of actual examples and life experience. Thought Provoking Dialogue is a brilliant tool which complements other approaches. I have used it regularly since to great effect.”

I attended the workshop for Thought Provoking Dialogue (TPD) without any prior knowledge of what this therapy actually meant in terms of therapeutic change work. I listened to Phil Jeremiah who explained what TPD was and also observed him whilst he carried out this work in his metaphorical “Bubble of Possibilities”. All I can say is that when the change happened, for whoever sat in that bubble with him, it was almost palpable as I sat in the audience and witnessed the change happening to that person in front of me. I got into the bubble with Phil Jeremiah and can say without reservation that he is an exceptionally skilled therapist, indeed at times it was as if he could read my mind before even I knew what was on it. I have heard and read the statement that TPD is not for everyone! I would disagree with that and say it is a necessary part of any therapists toolbox if they are committed to facilitating change for the client and, therefore, would urge all therapists to attend Phil Jeremiah’s TPD workshop and get one of the most skilled therapists to teach this art to them

So, here it is a DVD of a Humour Worx weekend. This is specifically for therapists, coaches, change workers and anyone interested in adding and incorporating a real dimension into how you work with clients.

When I first did the ‘Thought Provoking Dialogue’ weekend course with Phil Jerimiah, I was not sure of what to expect. What I found was a very fun way of resolving problems, that was both rapid and very effective. The processes used are very well structured as is the teaching methodology, which involves clear explanations along with actual practice of the processes involved. All in all an excellent piece of therapeutic technology.

When we are working in the role of a change consultant, therapist, facilitator or coach we do have an outcome in mind that is to facilitate a real, honest and empowering environment of exploration for our clients. How can we tune into being this creative?

Way too many change consultants can’t get out of their own way, in terms of making a real step or going out of their own comfort zone to enable their clients to do the same. What can we do to get to grips with getting out of our own way and facilitate real change experience?

There is a real need and requirement to be able to create a context for generative change which is enabling and at the same time, truly an honest and very creative place. When we hold a perspective of being seriously creative, we can see a clear path to genuinely enabling changes …

Performing arts and drama facilitation expert, Ruth Hindmarsh will facilitate a fun and safe space to really be the change consultant you know are, with fun and real purpose.

Within a sequence of exercises, Ruth and myself will integrate play, fun and creativity into tools and process’s you can easily merge into your professional practice and your life to make your sessions and interactions much more creative as well as bringing a smile and sense of something more deeply connecting into our work, play time and life as a whole.

The ‘Bubble’ is a safe space created in advance of any therapeutic or coaching work. All participants will receive

  • New and different perspectives and methodologies to use humour in your own work and practices

So many research papers and books tell us of the positive effects of laughter. Apparently 20 minutes of laughter is equivalent to 20 minutes of physical activity, likened to an inner form of jogging. It may well act as a buffer against day to day stressful perceptions. However, laughter is not easy to come by in our mixed up fear driven world. Consequently Humour Worx sets out to challenge our sometimes negative mind-sets and self-limiting beliefs.

I thoroughly enjoyed Phil’s workshop. Apart from the actual content, which was fascinating, his slick delivery meant that the weekend flew by. He is a superb and extremely humorous presenter, who could give many comedians a run for their money!
